Audio Karate: History

Audio Karate signed to Kung-Fu Records in fall 2004. They put out their debut album, Space Camp, on May 14, 2005. The album featured the hits "Nintendo 89," "Rosemead," and "Senior Year." After the release of Space Camp, Audio Karate toured the world with bands such The Ataris, NOFX, blink-182 and other bands.

After the heavy touring, the band decided to take a break to write their next record. The result was an album named Lady Melody that was produced by Bill Stevenson of The Descendents. Lady Melody was released on June 1, 2006 on Kung Fu Records. Lady Melody is considered a much darker and angier record than Space Camp. After the release of the record the band began to tour non-stop in support of it. In 2005 a rumor had spread that the band had broken up, but was later proven to be false. As of 2006 the band is working on a follow-up album to Lady Melody.

Recently, Ismael Olmeado built a studio, Lady Melody Recordings. It is expected that it will be the place where Audio Karate will be recording the new album. There is no word if is out of the group. The band posted that Mike Jimenez formerly of the pop-punk band Rufio will be drumming for them for their up-coming album.

On October 15,2006 Audio Karate updated their fans on their myspace page apparently vocalist\guitarist Renzo Penaherrera & guitarist Ismael Olmeado are writing the soundtrack to an independent movie titled "Maquillaje," a dark movie about botched love and suicide. It was directed by Marcial Rios, a friend of the band. The film is done entirely in Spanish. The music that they are writing for the movie doesn't sound like the typical Audio Karate songs; most of the songs have been fueled by heavy drinking. They also mentioned that they are working on a new album, but they don't know when it will be coming out, or when they will be able to go on tour again.
