Formed in 1987, death metal unit Fleshcrawl released its first album, Descent Into the Absurd, in 1992. The record, featuring the lineup of vocalist Alex Pretzer, guitarist/bassist Mike Hanus, guitarist Stefan Hanus, and drummer/vocalist Bastian Herzog, drew the band frequent comparisons to the likes of Cannibal Corpse. Their sophomore effort, Impurity, followed in 1993; after three years of constant touring, Fleshcrawl released Bloodsoul in 1996. For 1997's Bloodred Massacre, Pretzer was replaced by Sven Gross.
