Phil Vassar (born May 28, 1964 in Lynchburg, Virginia) is an American country music singer-songwriter, noted for his use of a piano as a backing instrument.
Vassar made his debut on the American country music scene in the late 1990s, co-writing number one singles for Tim McGraw, Jo Dee Messina, and Alan Jackson. By late 1999, Vassar was signed to Arista Nashville. His debut album, Phil Vassar, was released in early 2000; it produced five hit singles on the U.S. Billboard country singles charts and was certified gold in the United States.
As a singer, Vassar has charted fifteen singles on the Billboard country singles charts, including two number one singles: "Just Another Day in Paradise" (2000) and "In a Real Love" (2004). He has also co-written five additional number one singles for other artists.
In 2007, Vassar changed labels, signing with Universal South Records.

Vassar was born and raised in Lynchburg, Virginia. He attended James Madison University but dropped out to pursue his music career. He was a member of the Eta Kappa chapter of Theta Chi Fraternity.
Until 2007, Vassar was married to the former Julie Wood, who co-wrote two of Phil's singles: "That's When I Love You" and "The Woman in My Life." The couple married in 2002 but filed for divorce in the summer of 2007.
In 2006, Vassar entered his second season as a judge on Nashville Star.

Prior to signing with Arista Nashville, Vassar found considerable success as a songwriter. Vassar also co-owns a piano bar outside Nashville, Tennessee, where he performed his own material prior to signing a record deal. |
