Vasco Rossi Biography

Italian rock singer Vasco Rossi got involved in music while working as a DJ for a local radio station called Punto. In 1978, the artist recorded "Ma Cosa Vuoi Che Sia Una Canzone," followed by 1979's "Non Siamo Mica Gli Americani." It was 1980's "Colpa d'Alfredo" which consolidated him in the Italian rock scene. From that moment, even when he was criticized for his life style, Vasco Rossi started getting a growing number of followers. In 1982, the singer participated in San Remo's Festival with "Vado Al Massimo." That song came in last place, yet it became his first smash. In April of 1984, Vasco Rossi was on the news, this time after being arrested for illegal drug possession. The more rebellious, the more popular, Vasco Rossi came into the 1990s stereotyped as a rock icon. In 1998, EMI released his album Canzoni Per Me, followed by 1999's Rewind. ~ Drago Bonacich, All Music Guide
